Software Engineer

Virtual Hold Technology (VHT) is an innovative software developer specializing in virtual queuing solutions for contact centers of Fortune 500 companies. The Software Engineer is responsible for the deployment and technical integration of the Virtual Hold solution into diverse contact center environments.


Position Purpose

The Software Engineer is responsible for the analysis of business, engineering and scientific problems and is charged with the documentation and development of well-defined methods, procedures and programs in the delivery of practical systems solutions.


Problems and Challenges

The Software Engineer is challenged with assisting in programming, troubleshooting and managing problems affecting operational software as well as developing these areas for future expansion while providing the highest system reliability and performance possible.


Essential Position Functions

Principle Accountabilities

  • Applies independent judgment, discretion and analysis in coordinating, developing and designing solutions for business, and engineering and/or scientific problems to meet expanding or changing business requirements.
  • Defines and develops practical information system specifications utilizing pseudo-code, flowcharts, block diagrams, charts and layouts for solutions to business, engineering and/or scientific problems.
  • Confers with end users and studies effectiveness of systems flow, data usage and manual or automated processes to identify ineffective or inefficient systems.
  • Communicates and coordinates with clients during the analysis, definition and development phases, when required.
  • Maintains awareness of state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, problem solving techniques and computing equipment.
  • Participates in certain aspects of end user consulting, systems analysis, general systems design, vendor contracts and detail systems design.
  • Learns user functions, organization and roles to the extent required.
  • Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion.
  • Fulfills departmental requirements in terms of providing work coverage and administrative notification during periods of personnel illness, vacation or education.
  • Follows all company standards for software development.
  • Performs at or above the enterprise’s evaluation standards.

Authority

  • Analyze and design of methods, procedures, systems and/or programs.
  • Generate and test program code.
  • Document program code.
  • Assist peers and subordinates when necessary.

Contacts

Daily contacts are with systems and programming personnel.  Moderate contact is required with external suppliers and vendors to evaluate and assess state-of-the-art systems design, documentation and development tools, techniques and methodologies.  Moderate contact is required with clients.

Position Requirements

  • BS or BA degree with a computer science, engineering, business or mechanical engineering major or related field or equivalent experience is required.
  • Masters degree in computer science, engineering or related field for senior and specialist level is desired.
  • Two to three years experience in programming using the language and/or CASE tools is desired.
  • Two to three years experience programming with Visual C++ and or C# with Microsoft Windows operating system is required.
  • Familiarity with Intel/ Dialogic voice board and call processing software is desired.
  • Experience developing applications for computer telephony integration (CTI), interactive voice response (IVR) systems and/ or predictive dialers is desired.
  • Familiarity with automatic call distributors (ACD) and private branch exchanges (PBX) is desired.
  • Familiarity with the Software Engineering Institute’s Capability Maturity Model and the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Ability to communicate effectively when dealing with internal and external clients and suppliers both in writing and orally is required.

Position Restrictions

This is an exempt position and therefore is not eligible for overtime compensation.


Career Ladder

The position could lead to Senior Software Engineer or Manager of Software Engineering.
